Yes, I'm a Witch. Here's What That Actually Means

Updated: 4 days ago

One of the most common questions I get, especially when meeting new people, is,

“What makes you a witch?” Closely followed by, “Why do you call yourself that?”

For me, being a witch isn’t a costume, trend, or aesthetic. It’s not something I “do” on weekends or around Halloween. It’s who I am. It’s a way of living that has always been part of me. There are a lot of misconceptions about what witchcraft actually is, so I want to explain what it means to me and how it looks in real life.

What Witchcraft Means to Me

Witchcraft, to me, is a personal spiritual practice that connects me with nature, energy, and the unseen. It’s about understanding how energy moves and learning to work with it consciously and respectfully. I’ve always been intuitive and connected to the natural world. As a witch, I live in rhythm with the moon, the seasons, and the energy around me. It’s not about fantasy or performance, it’s about awareness, alignment, and intention.

When I say I’m a witch, it’s because I live my life through that lens. I study, practice, and apply spiritual principles every day. My work includes ritual, spellwork, divination, ancestral connection, and energy healing. It’s not about belief alone; it’s about active practice and lived experience.

What I Actually Do as a Witch

People often imagine something dramatic or mysterious when they hear the word witch, but my days are far from that. My practice is consistent, grounded, and purposeful. Keep in mind,  I do a LOT of spiritual work for myself on a daily/weekly basis, but also for hundreds of others all over the world. Here’s what it includes:

Spellwork: I cast spells to direct energy toward goals such as healing, clarity, protection, love, or transformation. Each spell is intentional and focused.

Divination: I use Tarot, Oracle, Runes, and Pendulum readings to gain insight, offer guidance, and bring understanding to situations.

Spiritual Guidance and Mentoring: I help others reconnect with their energy, navigate challenges, and find direction in their path.

Ritual Work: I perform rituals for moon phases, Sabbats, and personal transformation. These keep me in tune with natural cycles and spiritual flow.

Crafting Tools: I create oils, herbs, candles, and ritual kits that others can use in their own spiritual work.

Energy Work: I cleanse, protect, and shift energy, whether for individuals, homes, or spiritual situations, to bring clarity and balance.

Living with Intention: Everything I do, from cooking to cleaning, becomes an act of intention and mindfulness.

Why I Call Myself a Witch

I use the word witch because it represents who I am and how I live. It reflects my connection to Earth, spirit, and intuition. It’s not a title for attention, it’s a truth I’ve grown into. The word also carries history. For generations, “witch” was used to label, shame, and silence those who held natural wisdom and power. Reclaiming it is a way of honoring the healers and wise women who came before me. It’s not about rebellion; it’s about authenticity. Witchcraft has been my path to self-understanding and strength. It’s helped me heal, grow, and transform. Calling myself a witch isn’t about power over others; it’s about personal power, awareness, and connection.

What Witchcraft Isn’t

No, witchcraft isn’t about worshipping the devil or harming others. It’s not about control or manipulation. True witchcraft is about responsibility, knowing that energy has consequences, and understanding balance. It’s about the interplay between shadow and light, action and reflection, will and surrender.

It’s not about escaping reality; it’s about being fully present in it.

How It Shapes My Life

Being a witch is not something I switch on and off. It’s part of everything I do. My home is my altar, my kitchen is sacred, and my daily actions carry intention. I work closely with lunar energy, seasonal cycles, and elemental forces. I also run The Hour of Witchery, where I offer spellwork, readings, and spiritual guidance to clients all over the world. My goal is always to help others connect with their own energy and intentions and find strength in their spiritual path.

Witchcraft isn’t just what I practice; it’s how I live. It’s in the rituals I create, the spells I cast, the guidance I offer, and the energy I bring into everything I do. So, what makes me a witch? It’s not the title, it’s the way I live, the energy I honor, and the intention I carry into every part of my life.
