The Hour of Witchery
My name is Avanjia, and my journey with witchcraft began long before I ever had the words to describe it. I was around six years old, spending most of my time in the forest behind our home with my sheltie, D.O.G. (his full name was Red Wood Wise Way of Oxford, though I never understood why). I’d spend hours in the forest with D.O.G., singing to him, to the trees, while stuffing leaves and twigs in my pockets. I didn’t know what a witch was then, but I was already living in rhythm with nature in some form. By the time I was ten, I remember I was fascinated with the sky, the stars, and everything mystical. I was never taught witchcraft by anyone; it simply lived within me. And to this day, I have no idea where it resonated from. I was highly intuitive at an extremely young age, and even now, I sometimes look back, amazed at how in tune I was with the unseen world. Growing up in the country surrounded by animals, as an only child, I naturally formed a strong spiritual bond with nature. I can’t recall the moment I became a witch, because I feel it’s always been a part of who I am. Now, at (almost) 39, I say I’ve been practicing for over 28 years, though the truth is, it runs much deeper than that.
Before creating The Hour of Witchery, I spent over a decade helping others in different ways. I was a professional photographer for more than 10 years, helping people, mostly women, but also men, see their own beauty through my lens. Those photoshoots were about more than images; they helped people reconnect with confidence, self-love, and self-worth. I literally did hundreds and hundreds of shoots and easily met thousands of people. I’ve always had a passion for helping others heal and grow, and that has carried through everything I’ve done.
I wanted to share this small collection of photos from where I am from in Western Canada, since I have customers all over the world.
Over the years, I’ve worn many hats, I guess you could say: I’ve taught English online to people aged 3 to 80 across seven time zones, creating lessons and connecting with students around the world. I’ve owned and operated multiple small businesses, including a licensed home spa, and worked professionally as an advanced makeup artist for my own business, weddings, and television. I’ve also spent a decent amount of time in the healthcare field, attended Real Estate school, and even earned my Private Investigator’s license (yes, I am a licensed P.I.).
I’ve always had a strong drive and curiosity; once I set my mind to something, I see it through.
Now, all of that experience and determination have come full circle. Every skill I’ve gained throughout my life so far has helped me build the foundation of my craft today. I’ve always wanted to help others, and now I can do that in the most authentic way possible, through my spiritual work. My life and my craft are fully intertwined, allowing me to create, teach, and connect with people from all over the world. Beyond my work, I’ve always been creative. I’ve been singing since the age of four, performing in competitions well into my twenties, working in music studios, and was once on TV and on the Radio in central/northern Alberta (I have a deep back story with singing). These days, I still spend time writing and singing when I can. I love learning and creating. I’m currently teaching myself German, Spanish, and Faroese (Old Norse), as well as piano, guitar, crochet, and embroidery. When I’m not working, I’m usually in nature, writing, listening to my vinyl collection, painting, or building miniature book nooks (low-key obsession). Creativity, learning, and connection have always been at the heart of who I am.
A few years ago, I began sharing my spiritual work publicly, and that’s how The Hour of Witchery was born. It started as a small, vulnerable step but grew into something much larger than I ever expected. Now, I offer customized rituals, spiritual guidance, readings, mentorships, and courses that reach people all around the world. I’ve self-published several books and am currently building The Hour of Witchery Academy, which will feature over 25 courses designed to educate, inspire, and guide others through their own spiritual path. I also created The Inner Circle, a private community space for those who want to learn, grow, and connect more deeply with their craft and spirit.
My mission has always been the same: to create a safe, supportive space for others to reconnect with themselves and their spiritual path. I know what it’s like to hide this part of yourself. When I was younger, showing my “witchy side” wasn’t accepted. I was threatened that if I showed it again, I’d be disowned or sent away. Yes, sent away. That fear shaped me, but it also gave me purpose and strong devotion to my own practice, craft, and life path. I never want anyone to feel ashamed for who they are. That’s why I built this space, for those who are ready to embrace their craft and walk their path without fear.

rearrange the furniture in my house at 10pm just because i had a vision.
dream cottage must-have?
a clawfoot tub in a garden for moon baths, and of course lots and lots of animals.
best life change?
changing out all my skincare for all-natural, supporting local shops and businesses, getting rid of plastic and polyester and using cotton, and switching out all my cookware for wood, cast iron, and stainless steel.
most nostalgic food dish?
homemade beef stroganoff with egg noodles, and homemade bread pudding. both are very dear to me.
one best decision you've ever made?
lucius. easily. hands down.
