How I Prepare for Full Moon, New Moon & Witching Hour Ritual Nights

Full Moon, New Moon, and Witching Hour ritual nights are not treated like regular working days for me. These are specific spiritual windows that I prepare for ahead of time because I already know the energy, the timing, and the amount of ritual work can be very different from a normal day.
On Full Moon and New Moon dates, I often have multiple customers booking ritual work for the same energetic window. These nights can become very full, with back-to-back rituals and personal spiritual work woven into the evening. Even though my regular closing time is 10 p.m. (Mountain Time), moon ritual nights often go much later. It is very normal for me to be working until 2 a.m., 3 a.m., 4 a.m., or sometimes even later, depending on the amount of work booked for that night.
These Dates Are Prepared for Ahead of Time
When someone books a Full Moon or New Moon ritual add-on, they are not only booking the ritual itself. They are also booking into a specific spiritual date that I prepare for mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These nights require more from me than a regular ritual day and I make sure I am rested beforehand, organized, focused, and in the right headspace to sit with the energy properly. I prepare my altar, materials, candles, herbs, moon water when applicable, chant work, and the energetic structure of the night before I begin. I also make sure I am not rushing myself, because ritual work needs focus, presence, and care.
This is one of the reasons these dates cost more. They are high-energy, high-demand nights that require more time, more preparation, and a much longer working window. This is also why I don't accept rush orders on Moon dates because I am spending the day resting and preparing and focused on other things for the night ahead.
My Own Spiritual Practice Is Also Part of These Nights
Full Moon and New Moon nights are also important within my own personal practice. These are not random dates to me, they are spiritual markers that I work with in my own life, my own craft, and my own altar practice. Because of this, I treat these nights with a lot of respect and I prepare myself in a way that allows me to show up properly for both my own work and the work I am doing for many other customers. I do not treat these rituals as something to squeeze in quickly. I make space for them, I prepare for them, and I work with the energy of the night as intentionally as possible.
Preparing Myself Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, and Spiritually
Before a busy moon night, I try to make sure my mind is clear and that I am not carrying unnecessary stress into the work. Ritual work requires focus, especially when multiple people are trusting me with very personal intentions, situations, and emotional energy.
I take time to settle myself, organize the orders, read through the notes, and prepare for the flow of the night. I also make sure I know which rituals need more time, which ones are layered with add-ons, and which intentions may need deeper attention. This helps me move through the night in a focused and grounded way instead of feeling scattered or rushed.
Because these nights often go far past my regular closing hours, I also prepare physically. I try to rest beforehand, eat properly, hydrate, and make sure I have everything ready before I begin. Ritual work may look simple from the outside, but it can take a lot of energy, especially when I am at the altar, doing candle work, herbal burn work, chant work, reading the energy, taking notes, and moving through multiple rituals back to back, so being rested and physically prepared matters.
And spiritually, I prepare my altar, my space, my tools, and myself. This can include cleansing, grounding, setting up candles and herbs, preparing moon water, aligning the ritual materials with the moon phase, and doing chant or prayer work connected to the energy of the night. For Full Moon work, the energy is often connected to release, clarity, illumination, charging, emotional movement, manifestation, protection, and bringing hidden things to the surface. And for New Moon work, the energy is often connected to new beginnings, fresh intentions, attraction, growth, renewal, direction, and planting the energetic seed for what someone wants to call in. You can read more about this in other articles on the website.
For Witching Hour work, especially when someone books a 3 a.m. ritual window, the preparation is also very specific. I plan for that timing ahead of time so I can be awake, focused, and properly prepared instead of forcing myself into the work while exhausted.
Why Feedback May Be Sent the Next Morning
On very packed moon nights, there may be times where I let customers know that their written feedback will be sent the following morning. This does not mean the ritual work was not completed that night. It means the ritual work itself was completed during the intended spiritual window, but the written feedback may need to wait until I have rested.
Feedback write-ups can take a couple of hours on their own, especially when there are multiple rituals, photos, videos, detailed notes, or layered spell work involved. If I finish ritual work at 3 a.m., 4 a.m., or later, sitting down immediately afterward to write every feedback could easily take me into 6 a.m. or 7 a.m.
I would rather get some rest and then sit down with a clear mind to write the feedback properly instead of forcing it when I am overtired. Your feedback is still important, and I want it to be written with care, clarity, and proper attention.
These Nights Are High-Volume Spiritual Work Nights
Full Moon and New Moon dates are some of the busiest and most energetically focused times in my work, even though I am available every day of the week, 11-12 hrs a day. These are not regular booking windows. They are planned around, prepared for, and treated with more time and intention because the energy of the night itself is part of the ritual experience. When you book for one of these dates, I am preparing myself, my altar, my space, and the ritual materials ahead of time so the work can be done properly. These nights often run long but they are also some of the most meaningful dates to work with when the intention matches the energy.
I always appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding on these nights and hope this also gives a look inside at how I prepare for Full Moon, New Moon, and even Witching Hour ritual nights. <3 Blessings, Avanjia www.thehourofwitchery.com
