I want to go over something many people ask about when they first get into energy work and spirit sensitivity. The idea of portals, especially through mirrors and windows. They are similar in the sense that both act as thresholds, but they behave very differently in magical work and it is important to understand how each one functions.

A mirror portal is created through intention. Mirrors already have a long history of being connected to the spirit world and reflective magic. When you dedicate a mirror for spiritual use, it becomes a focused doorway. Some witches use them for scrying, communication, astral work, or even for banishing and protection. Because mirrors reflect and hold energy, they can pull in or amplify whatever they are charged with. This is why mirror portals require strong boundaries and a clear closing practice. If left open, the energy in a space can shift quickly, which some people experience as disturbances, heaviness, or feeling watched.

Window portals are different. Windows are natural openings. They allow energy to flow in and out because they are literal doorways to the outside world. When used intentionally, a window can become a channel for manifestation work, sending intentions outward, receiving signs, or allowing communication from the natural or spirit world. Many witches talk to the moon or cast intentions out of an open window during rituals. They are beautiful passageways, but they also need protection. Especially at night, when energy moves more freely, windows can pick up or let in unwanted energy if there is no spiritual boundary in place.

Neither type of portal is stronger than the other. They simply serve different purposes. Mirrors tend to be more intense because they hold energy rather than letting it pass through. Windows stay more passive, but they can shift the energy of a space if they are not spiritually sealed. If you ever decide to work with portals, always start slow. Use intention, protection, cleansing, and a proper closing. Portals are powerful tools, but they should always be respected.
